I have been creating things since I graduated from Wellesley College in Massachusetts. I have designed new houses, renovated and restored old ones, and been drawing and painting ever since. My work reflects my love of people and the places I’ve lived: Maine, Vermont, California, Washington, DC, and Europe, and others too numerous to mention. I hope you find something to love.
People and places - both the natural and the built worlds - are my inspiration, but I use different materials and techniques for different inspirations. In California, I was captivated by the flowers, especially the tiny ones, and I have a series of prints available for ceanothus, checkerblooms, naked ladies and poppies. I used Tombo pens, which wash if you catch them quickly, on watercolor paper for these images.
I have drawn and painted people in different ways. I use graphite, or pen and ink for drawing, watercolors and inks for generic portraits, and Gamblin oils for official portraits. Lately I have been telling stories about social issues using old drawings, magazine cutouts, in collage on either oil paint or acrylic.
For the natural and built worlds, (especially boats because I am a sailor,) I generally use pen and ink and watercolors which are easy to carry and to travel with. I have a series of islands, however, which have been painted in both watercolor and oil called the Floating World.
Again, I hope you find something to love.
